words to decorate by

I am realizing, as I decorate my very first home, I tend to gravitate towards nature-y things.

Like birds.

And flowers.

And the color blue.

To me, it symbolizes life and growth. I am also noticing that decorating with bright, spacious colors and nature-y details really helps to brighten up our little nest.

I want our home to feel inviting, warm, natural, and refreshing.

What about you? As you decorate your home, what words come to mind?

  1. Well, I can't wait until we have our own home so I can decorate and paint like I want too. Hopefully we'll only be in this apartment for another year, and then I can pour out my interior decor creativity on our own home someday.

As far as my decor style goes, I definitely have thought about this a lot - I love interior decorating, and love planning what our house will look like someday.

Before I go into detail, the words that come to mind when I think about decorating my home would be:

    French/Italian
    Earthy
    Warm
    Richness
    Not crowded

I love earthy and rich tones, like maroon, hunter green, tan, dark peach, and brown. But I'm only going to use these colors on walls that have windows, or are in a very well lit room, because I don't want darkness, just wonderful richness.

I'm going to pattern my dining room and kitchen after a somewhat French/Italian and coffee theme - french and italian paintings, coffee paintings, a pot rack hanging from the ceiling, big earthy tiles on the floor, etc.

As far our master bedroom goes, I'm thinking probably a sea blue with a dark brown trim, or a pretty grass green with a dark brown trim, with little white accents, and different green and/or blue shades all throughout.

Bathroom colors and decor I would like for our master bath someday would be a gender neutral peachy/orange that's very warm - with brown accents (see the earthy theme again?).

Living area/living room - I'd probably like to do a rich maroon or a hunter green on half the wall, and then a tan on the bottom half, and have my couches mix and match with those colors.

Guest bathroom will probably be a sea/ocean theme with light blue walls and ocean and seashell accompaniments.

So yeah, I have thought about this a lot and I can't wait to decorate my own house someday!

  3. Michela thanks for your words about my post today! I'm so thankful we have husbands who love the Lord and are responsible to be the leaders they should be.

When I think of my home, I think warm, calm, serene, and inviting (I know that's four) We chose deep colors...brown for the living room, a deep red for the dining room (it helps aid good conversation apparently) a rich blue for our reading/play room, and a hunter green/vanilla for the kitchen! I think you would like it...JOhn designed all the colors to play off of each other...he's so good at that stuff, people who come over say our house reminds them of pottery barn style. Who knew?

    Great post!
