I Caved.

After searching High and Low for a mysterious product called "Krylon Mirror-Like Spraypaint" during the Christmas season and beyond, I finally gave up. I declare that this paint is nowhere to be found in the great state of Minnesota.

And, call me a cheapo, but I absolutely refuse to buy spraypaint online and pay shipping charges. No can do. But without that paint, you really can't recreate the adorable mercury-glass lookalikes that are popping up all over blogland (apparently these bloggers do not live in MN).

So, after waiting for 2 months, I finally caved.

Say hello to the newest member of the Decorative Baubles of the Marx Household Association. Kind of a tongue twister, I know. =)

I love this little vase/candleholder/dust catcher so much. I think it might be a candidate for our new bedroom makeover as well! But for now, it's sitting on our dining room table all cute and mercury-glassy.

So my question of the day for you is:

Have you ever been unable to complete a project, and just run out and bought the thing you were trying to make?

  1. YES! Thought I cant recall an example right now. I'm certain I have!

I love your new addition =) Mercury glass is so darn fun!

  2. It's gorgeous! I see something in a store and think, I can totally make that! Then I get home, don't know where to start and go back and buy it.

  3. Absolutely. Like Jenn, I can't remember when. But I guarantee it's happened.

You should contact Krylon (via twitter or email) and let them know your problem. I have a feeling they'll send you some!

  4. Ummm, yes!!!!!!!!! p.s. i love that blue vase...anchor blue is the new color this season! and orange of course :)

  5. Well, it's nice to know I'm not alone! Holly- that's my problem too! A lot of times things end up being more expensive to actually make them. And, of course, more time consuming.

Kristi- The vase was a wedding gift from my Aunt and Uncle. It's actually a pitcher, but I thought it would look cool holding the flowers too! I love blue, especially that dark, inky blue!

  6. It's sooo cute!

I had a hard time finding that paint too. If only you lived closed I'd give you some, Krylon sent me a pack of 6 because they liked my tutorial. But only fancy companies like Krylon can ship aerosol cans apparently ;) Do you have a Michaels?? Because I searched for months and never found it, and then the lady at Krylon told me to look in the glass paint section NOT the spray paint section. And bingo, there it was, in my teensy little Idaho town. Just a thought?

  7. Anna- Thanks SO much for the info! I did hear that the paint is usually in the glass section, so I checked around at Michael's and Joannes, but they STILL didn't have it! That is so great that they sent you 6 cans, awesome! Ah well, I will just keep looking, but at least in the meantime I have my own little mercury glass jar. =)

  8. Hello I'm visiting from Holly's Blog and like what I see on your blog. I love the post because I learned something new. I didn't know there was such a thing as mirror-like spray paint. Thanks. I'll be sure to visit again if that's ok with you!!!

  9. Hi I just found your blog, but I've already fallen in love. I go to the store all the time when I feel like I need something mid project. I'm also guilty of ordering ridiculously cheap things offline just to pay expensive shipping.

  10. Hi Cindy and Ashley! Thanks so much for stopping by! So glad you like what you see and are coming back, I LOVE meeting new friends!
