Not a Fan

A couple weekends ago, my dear husband tackled a project that's been on our "to-do" list for a loooong time. We had a ceiling fan in our room that was really needing to be addressed. Huge white fan blades, tulip shaped shades, and brass details? Not really my cup of tea. I voted for getting rid of the fan altogether and replacing it with a drum shade or something, but my hubby would have non of that. So instead, we decided to find a more streamlined fan that would fit the space better.

And voila! This little guy was found at Menards for under $40. What a steal! I love that the blades are shorter, and we were able to mount it closer to the ceiling so it doesn't feel like you are being hunted by a giant fan anymore.

Oh, and just in the spirit of "keeping things real" around here, I thought I would post the whole view of our bed that day. Yup, it usually ends up becoming a clothing hang-out spot at some point of the week. I maybe make the bed 2xs a week? I love seeing a cleanly made bed, but honestly, it's not top on my priority list.

I'm dying to know- what are your thoughts on ceiling fans? Do you think they are an unfortunate necessity? Do you avoid them at all costs? Or do you embrace the fan? (Well, not actually embrace it, especially when it's running, that would be dangerous...)

  1. I used to hate them. Cleaning them was the worst part! However, my husband's cousin recently purchased a ceiling fan and I instantly fell in love with it. It had an old world/steampunk feel to it.

I still prefer hanging lights though. :)

    1. yes- cleaning ceiling fans is a huge pain. It's made a whole lot easier though by using swiffers! =) I love the steampunk look!

  2. I hated them when I had ugly ones in apartments, but they really are useful. I would tell Jane-6-years-ago to just spraypaint the ugly ones. :)

    1. Haha, if only we could tell our old selves a thing or two! They are useful, especially in 80 degree heat when your husband doesn't want to turn on the AC...

  3. Living in Florida we wouldn't want to be without them. I did however choose each one carefully.

    1. Oh yes, they are definitely a must-have in FL! It's nice that we actually have a choice of fans these days though, isn't it?

  4. I love ceiling fans because it means more days without running the A/C! We've upgraded all of our, except the kitchen one. The old ones were hideous. Your new one is also a great improvement!

Also, I laughed out loud at the idea of "feel[ing] like you are being hunted by a giant fan". SO amusing! :)

  5. I would absolutely embrace the new and improved fan you've got goin' on! Sooooo cute! And thank you for the messy bed photo. Pretty sure mine also looks like that more days than I'd like to admit. I'm still developing the habit of making our bed first thing in the morning... we'll see if I achieve that goal!
