New Wall Decor

Do you ever get the itch to change things up with your decor? I seriously wish that my living room was configured in a way that I could actually move furniture around. Unfortunately, the layout just won't work any other way. So, I am only left with the option of changing the decor to provide that fresh perspective.

One of the things that is really starting to annoy me lately is this shelf.

At first, I put the shelf up (or rather, Hubby did!) thinking that it would be so wonderful to change things in and out for different looks. Now, a year and a half later, I am finding that it is harder to come up with combinations that I like and that aren't awkward-feeling.

So, I'm dreaming about some kind of mirror/mirrors that would freshen up this wall. Like this lovely antiqued one:

Thanks, Sumo Paint for your help here. Not sure where that line under the mirror came from, but apparently I don't have the awesome magical powers needed to make it go away.

Some other options would be:

Some pretty starburst mirrors. I don't think I've ever met a starburst mirror that I didn't like! Be still me heart. Look at all that orange!

Also, I promptly fell in love with the gorgeous mirrored windows that Centsational Girl has in her living room. I love how they brighten up the space, and the old-world vibe they give with their slightly antiqued look.

I have to admit, the picture above is the one that really captured my heart at first glance.

What are your thoughts? As always, I would LOVE to hear them!

  1. I like the long mirror concept. Have you considered doing a strip of photo frames slightly askew? I saw a photo in a magazine once where they did a straight line across the wall with frames. Some were higher or lower than others, but the sides were all touching so it had a really great look. We bought a bunch of different frames (all in black) and we plan to make a massive wall collage with them. We'll be putting photos from our wedding photo booth in the frames similar to this: http://www.houzz.com/photos/21963/dominomag--eclectic-blue-bedroom-eclectic-bedroom-

I feel your pain though. We have issues with decorating too as our apartment floor plan is awkward. We have to have our sofa nearly backed up to our patio door in order to get the best utilization of space.

    Good luck!

  2. Christina- Oooh, that's a really good idea too! I love that picture.

Jenn- my thoughts too! I really can't get over how much I love #3. It just makes the room look SO spacious and light!

  3. I love CG's look - but I also love the look of photo #2. but maybe that's becuase it's just totally "me." (not that you'd know that from looking at my bland living room.)

I'd look on Craigslist for old window frames and DIY the last look if it were me!

  4. OMgoodness Jane, your decorating style is not bland at all! Many times I have wished for a living room exactly like yours! I do love the starburst mirrors a LOT.

Great idea for the window frames! I never would have thought of that!
