I was out and about with my hubs recently and of course, we had to stop at ye olde GW. No trip is complete (for me) without a peek around the thrift store to see what's available. On this particular trip, however, we were slightly disappointed. GW has a maternity clothing section that is literally 1 foot wide, and filled with 3X size maternity pants. Bummer.
However, I did come across a little piece of history that I wanted to share with you. Here, we have some examples of crafts that probably date back to the 1990's, perhaps even earlier.
I can just imagine the caption on the crafting manual, "If your black thumb extends even to the hardiest varieties of plants, why not fashion a pair of precious cacti out of gingham? Just place your creation in a pot with some rocks and people will marvel at your creative talents."
I'm just so glad that crafting has come such a long way since then. I also sincerely hope that whoever made these (H & H originals?) does not read my blog. =)
Happy Tuesday everyone!
Honestly, I've had better luck just shopping for larger tunics and maxi sundresses than actual maternity clothes at GW. Maternity jeans and camis are the only maternity clothes I recommend buying new (Old Navy or Gap - although Motherhood Maternity has nice jeans). Might as well get a nice pair of jeans, especially if you plan on having more kids - you'll use them every time!
ReplyDeleteWith my last two pregnancies (both born in September, like your little one!), I lived in a couple non-maternity jersey maxi sundresses (in my pre-pregnancy size) that I picked up on clearance at Miejers and a nightgown from Target that looked like a sundress. Jersey knit was nice and stretchy to show off my bump, but very washable and lightweight. And I just added a cardigan/blazer and fun jewelry to dress them up a bit.
jen- that's what I was starting to think too! I would like pieces that could be worn again, and that can be worn in non-preggo times too! I have a few tops that will translate over already, and invested in a pair of cute maternity skinnies from Old Navy. I don't want to go overboard buying clothes, so I think I will do just that and look for loose fitting tops and dresses. =) Thanks so much for the info! Ah, I love that your babies were September babies too! So sweet.
DeleteWAIT!!!!!! DID I MISS SOMETHING?? I need to catch up , stat.
ReplyDeleteIn other news - I actually kind of like the idea of stuffed cacti. But not in those ugly fabrics. :)
=)
DeleteYou're right, the stuffed cacti wouldn't be so bad if it was in Jonathan Adler fabrics or something!
I bought all of my maternity pants at Kohl's. You can catch them suuuuuuuper cheap if you time it right! They are so comfy! I suppose our maternity wardrobes will be different though cause I am/was pregnant through the winter....
ReplyDeleteCool! I did think about Kohls but haven't been there yet! I will have to check that out. =)
DeleteOh this made me giggle! Sooo funny!
